After Fattening, Moroccan Sheep Sell Direct to Supermarkets
Morocco’s sheep have for centuries played a vital role in traditional life and the economy – the wool is woven into carpets and robes; the horns are shaped into tool handles and buttons; and mutton currently accounts for 28 percent of the country’s supply of red meat. Livestock brings an average annual value of approximately $1 billion to Morocco (10 billion dirhams). Annual production is over 103,000 tons and contributes 5% of the national GDP.
