DocView
I am a librarian. What will DocView do for me?
DocView helps librarians in two ways:
- First, it can help in document delivery via the Internet. With DocView running on your
computer, you can receive documents sent from another library's Ariel system
(version 3.3 or earlier). Then you can
forward the document to the intended patron. DocView offers two ways of sending a
document: Ariel FTP communication protocols and MIME email (using your favorite email
software). Using Ariel FTP protocols you can forward the document to anybody having Ariel
or a computer running DocView. Using MIME email you can forward the document to virtually
any computer, including one running DocView, or any Macintosh or UNIX computer. If your
patron has Macintosh or UNIX, a compatible TIFF file viewer is also required on that
computer for viewing the document.
- DocView also helps you receive document orders from patrons. With DocView running on
your computer, you can receive document requests via Ariel FTP from patrons who wish to
place orders using DocView.
