- Board closes Recommendation 92-4. Here are the words from the Board's March 2009 Annual Report to Congress (page 48): "The Board issued Recommendation 92-4 in July 1992 to ensure that the design of the Multi-Function Waste Tank Facility at Hanford, and other new defense nuclear facilities, would incorporate engineering principles and approaches, detailed engineering criteria, and practices essential to ensure adequate protection of public health and safety. Although this facility was never constructed, the overarching tenets of the recommendation remained applicable to the design of new defense nuclear facilities. With the issuance of the DOE order [DOE Order 413.3A], standard [DOE Standard 1189], and guides [DOE Order 413 guides] discussed above, the Board believes that Recommendation 92-4 has been implemented. Accordingly, the Board considers this recommendation closed.”
