Honolulu Airport Selected for $8-Million Federal Grant

Funds for runway lighting rehab, emergency generator

Washington, D.C. -- U. S. Representative Neil Abercrombie announced today that Honolulu International Airport has been selected for an $8 million discretionary grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation for airfield improvements.  The funds will reimburse the airport for the cost of upgrading and improving the runway lighting system and providing a back-up generator to power the landing strip lights should the airport lose electrical service.

"With the increase in air traffic Honolulu International Airport One of the greatest tragedies in today's society is that military veterans account for nearly one fourth of our homeless population," said Abercrombie. "No group of people has given more, and none more deserves our help.  The jobs skills training, job placement, temporary housing and other continuing support services that Network Enterprises will provide under this grant can literally turn people’s lives around."
