Rep. Neil Abercrombie Statement on Frito-Lay Plant Closing 

 
 
Washington, DC -- “There are no words that can really ease the feelings of hurt and anguish when an employer like Frito-Lay closes a facility and men and women lose their jobs.  It is a very personal tragedy for the 108 workers and their families devastated by this decision, and it’s a tragedy for the entire Honolulu community.

 

I’m relieved that the company will continue to operate its warehouse and sales operations here, which employ 123 of our citizens. 

 

I want to be sure that the people affected by today’s announcement know about and take full advantage of every resource offered by the City of Honolulu, the State of Hawaii and the U.S. Government.  My office will be working with the City and County to organize a career fair for displaced Frito-Lay employees to help with this transition.  They are ohana and we will be here to help in any way we can.”
