Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood has announced that grants totaling $1.2 billion in Recovery Act funds will go to improve state and local transit systems in the United States while supporting the creation of jobs and providing much needed transportation options for millions. Many of these grants will pay for paratransit services and accessible public transportation in communities around the country.
Department of Transportation is requesting comments on OTRB companies to determine the accessibility of transportation for people with disabilities under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Comments must be received by August 31, 2009. This link opens a PDF document.
The National Council on Disability (NCD) is seeking people with disabilities, individuals representing grassroots organizations and others to help shape disability policies and programs for the next decade. Deadline for submitting application to attend the summit is October 15, 2009.
