The center of any great research library is its book collection. At the Library of Congress, the General Collections, comprised of approximately 13 million volumes, is the bedrock on which the institution is based. The Collections Access, Loan and Management Division (CALM) is responsible for maintaining and serving the General Collections, while ensuring, through appropriate security and preservation measures, that the collection will be available for future generations.
