August 2009 Highlights

Record-setting summer heat continues across Southeast Texas.
July saw record shattering warmth across much of Southeast Texas. See the new temperature records tied or broken for Houston Intercontinental Airport (IAH), Houston Hobby Airport (HOU), College Station (CLL) and Galveston (GLS). Updated Top 10 lists for July are available for IAH, HOU, CLL and GLS. A Public Information Statement has been issued that summarizes how amazing July 2009 turned out.

El Niño is back! The Climate Prediction Center (CPC) has weekly El Ni�o/Southern Oscillation (ENSO) updates in pdf and ppt formats. Updates are made every Monday.
NOAA has updated their 2009 Hurricane Season outlook for the Atlantic basin. The Climate Prediction Center (CPC) has a very detailed and comprehensive website on the 2009 Atlantic Hurricane Season Outlook Update. The 2009 hurricane season has been quiet through the start of August. But don't let that fool you - the peak of the season doesn't come around until around the middle of September. It is very early in the hurricane season and you can always check out the National Hurricane Awareness Week website for excellent information that can be used to save lives at work, home, while on the road, or on the water. So check it out now - do not wait until the next storm is on our doorstep!
