The LandScan™ Dataset is copyrighted. No third party distribution of all, or parts, of the Dataset is authorized without proper licensing.

LandScan™ Dataset licenses are available free of charge for U.S. Federal Government and educational research use at bona fide educational institutions. Commercial, non-profit, and personal use license fees are determined on a case-by-case basis. However, all users must register, as described on this page, to obtain access to the data sets. An overview of this process is also available as a flow chart for your convenience.

Your registration information will be used to provide you with LandScan™ Global Population Dataset update and publication notices. Your personal information will be kept strictly confidential and will not be sold, rented, or used for non-LandScan purposes. Statistical information may be reported to LandScan's sponsors.

NOTE: Please note that registrations are normally processed within 24 hours. However, it may take up to three business days before your request is processed. Once we review your submission, we will send you a data usage license agreement which must be signed and returned to ORNL before data access is granted.
