OAK RIDGE, Tenn., Aug. 6, 2009 — A number of science teachers in Knox County Schools are receiving briefings this summer on research taking place at the Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

Farragut Intermediate School fourth grade teacher Allyson Degges says the presentations she and her colleagues are experiencing help their planning of the upcoming school year's science curriculum.

"It would be great for kids to come out and see this because there is such a misconception about Oak Ridge National Laboratory," Degges says. "You don't really know all that goes on out here -- all the labs they have, all the testing they do and how they apply to everyday life."

Knox County school officials hope to make these summer science briefings at Oak Ridge an annual activity.

ORNL is managed by UT-Battelle for the Department of Energy.
