About the Office

OER serves as the primary resource for those seeking information about the Office of the Inspector General, managing OIG's external and public affairs programs and serving as the principal advisor to the IG and the DIG on matters pertaining to planning, directing and coordinating the dissemination of news releases and fraud advisories to the various news gathering and news reporting services of the nation.

OER's responsibilities include:

Blue bullet Developing OIG's media and public information policies.

Blue bullet Directing OIG's external and public affairs programs.

Blue bullet Preparing OIG publications, speeches, and presentations to internal and external organizations.

Blue bullet Coordinating the OIG presence at SSA and other Federal events.

OER also develops and maintains relationships with Members of Congress, performing the following duties:

Blue bullet Conducting dialogue and participating in negotiations on highly sensitive matters with Members of Congress.

Blue bullet Preparing publications and Congressional correspondence and coordinates reporting requirements and interagency activities.

Blue bullet Assisting Members of Congress by responding to requests for information on pending and proposed legislation.

Blue bullet Developing legislative histories, researching, gathering, and disseminating information on Congressional activities affecting OIG programs, and preparing Congressional testimony.

Blue bullet Writing and publishing the OIG's Semiannual Report to Congress.
