The International Services Group is the centralized point of service assisting with the movement of people across borders: foreign-born scientists and professionals entering the U.S. to visit or work at Fermilab, as well as U.S.-citizen Fermilab employees being assigned abroad. Whether you are coming or going, we look forward to helping you get there!

International Services hosts a monthly Brown Bag Lunch on every 2nd Tuesday of each month, to help newcomers transition to life at Fermilab. The Lunch includes a short presentation on a “getting to know Fermilab” topic, follwed by time to ask questions (about the topic or any other problem) and socialize.

The August Brown Bag lunch is on August 12, 2009, from 12 noon to 1:30 pm in the Blackhole (a conference room in Wilson Hall, 2nd floor, in the northwest corner).

Users’ Office
Coordinates the issuance of ID badges for site access and computing accounts for computer system access to scientists and professionals, introduces the User to the laboratory, and gives Users information about laboratory policies, procedures and facilities. We also provide information and respond to questions and concerns about nearly any issue relating to the Users involvement with Fermilab.
We normally are open Monday through Friday, 7 am – 4:30 pm, and closed noon to 1 pm, but this schedule is subject to change.
The Users Office will be CLOSED Friday, May 22, Wednesday, May 27 and Friday, May 29, to prepare for Fermilab's Users' Annual Conference. We appreciate your understanding.

Visa Office
Immigration-related services for non-US citizens working at Fermilab, including J-1 sponsorship, H-1B petitions, and permanent residence. We also advise on the U.S. visa application process, and provide guidance on most aspects of the U.S. immigration process that might confront Fermilab employees. Because we frequently have meetings, both in our offices and elsewhere in Wilson Hall, we strongly recommend emailing visaoffice@fnal.gov for an appointment.

She also shares responsibility for Fermilab’s J-1 programs and assists with permanent residence. Melissa has worked at Fermilab since 1999. Amanda PetersenAmanda Petersen is the International Services Supervisor.  She supervises the Users Office and Visa Office, prepares permanent residence petitions and applications for employees, and provides guidance on immigration-related laws and policies.  Amanda is an immigration attorney and member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association.  She has worked at Fermilab since 2007.
