Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar to Address Youth Leaders on Climate Change Tonight

Tonight at the Washington Convention Center Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar will address the Power Shift 09 conference in which an expected 10,000 young adult leaders from across the country are gathering to call for action on climate change.

The Secretary will describe how President Barack Obama has charged the Department of the Interior with taking a key role in what Salazar calls “our moon shot to energy independence and addressing climate change.” Salazar will highlight the need for an army of young people dedicating themselves to green projects like helping to lay down transmission lines to circulate electricity generated by wind and solar power, restoring decaying trails and facilities in national parks, planting trees and repairing fish habitats.

Other speakers during the conference, which runs through March 2, include Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House of Representatives; Carol Browner, Assistant to the President for Energy and Climate Change; and Lisa Jackson, Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency.
