New Technology Prolongs Produce Freshness
With funding from USDA's Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service, scientists have developed a sensor for transport containers that helps to prevent spoilage of fruits and vegetables.

Younger people spend less money on fresh vegetables than older Americans do, according to data from the Consumer Expenditure Survey. This may affect their desire for fresh vegetables later in life as well.
