The POES collect global data on cloud cover; surface conditions such as ice, snow, and vegetation; atmospheric temperatures; and moisture, aerosol, and ozone distributions; and collect and relay information from fixed and moving data platforms. The instruments carried by POES measure energy levels in specific wavelengths, which are telemetered to the ground and input into complex software that generate the products These instruments include: the AVHRR/3,which is the primary imaging system, the sounding suite comprised of the HIRS/3, AMSU-A, and AMSU-B, the SBUV/2, which is both an imager and a sounder, and the SEM-2, which is comprised of theTED and MEPED.
The products shown below are produced by NOAA. These are examples of some of the different types of products that are generated. Please visit the web sites listed in the Related Links section to get the latest products.
