NOAA NAMES ELIZABETH DAY LEADER OF SEA GRANT EDUCATION PROGRAM The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has named Elizabeth Day the leader of the education program at NOAA's National Sea Grant College Program in Silver Spring, Md. Day will be responsible for managing Sea Grant's education program, coordinating Sea Grant educational activities with NOAA and other Federal agencies and organizations, and providing leadership for the Dean John A. Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship Program. "Dr. Day has more than 10 years of experience coordinating marine education programs and providing marine science content to a wide variety of students," said Ronald Baird, director of the National Sea Grant College Program at NOAA Research headquarters in Silver Spring. "We're very happy to have her join Sea Grant's national program office." Day's ties to Sea Grant go back to 1986 when she was selected as a New York Sea Grant Scholar. She later worked for South Carolina Sea Grant as a marine extension agent and, more recently, spent a year as a Sea Grant Knauss fellow working at the National Science Foundation. Prior to joining Sea Grant, Day was an assistant program director for ocean science education at the National Science Foundation. During her varied career, Day has also been coordinator of an environmental education center in Bluffton, SC, and an environmental consultant at a Savannah, Ga.-based engineering firm. Day received her B.S. in marine science from the University of South Carolina and her M.S. in marine environmental science from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Her Ph.D. in marine science from the University of South Carolina had a research emphasis on marine science education.
