NEW SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM TO HELP INCREASE STUDY ABROAD PARTICIPATION OF AFRICAN AMERICANS


Atlanta, GA, April 4, 2009 A new scholarship program designed to increase the number of African Americans who study abroad was announced today. The new program, launched by the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education (NAFEO) (www.nafeo.org) and the American Institute For Foreign Study (AIFS) (www.aifs.com), will make $100,000 in scholarship money available to African American undergraduate students studying abroad starting in fall 2010.

Under a grant funded by the Ford Foundation, The National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education (NAFEO) and its strategic partner the University of South Carolina (USC) are piloting a program for faculty who were displaced by Hurricane Katrina from the Gulf Coast region’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) including: Dillard University, Xavier University, Southern University New Orleans (SUNO), Alcorn State University, Jackson State University, and Tougaloo College.

HBCU & PBI Presidents & Chancellors Prepare for 2009 Presidential Peer Seminar & Leadership Enhancement Institute June 24-28, 2009

From June 24 through June 28, 2009 NAFEO, will host the 2009 Presidential Peer Seminar & Leadership Enhancement Institute as part of its membership services. The purpose of the Seminar is to provide presidents and chancellors of the nation’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Predominantly Black Institutions (PBIs) with information, inspiration, new skills and relationships to enhance their ability to serve at the helm of their institution, meet the many demands of governance, and better serve their communities.
