Fact Sheets on TVA & Clean Air

N.C. Attorney General Roy Cooper filed a lawsuit against TVA, claiming that TVA has done little or nothing to improve air quality in the region and is a “public nuisance” damaging the health of North Carolina residents.

Yet TVA has a long record of reducing emissions from its coal-fired power plants, and its air-quality program is among the most aggressive in the nation. In fact, the region’s air is cleaner today than it has been in decades.

TVA has done far more than North Carolina has done to reduce emissions and improve air quality. TVA meets the air-quality standards in the federal Clean Air Act and the laws in the states where it has plants.

The trial began July 14 in Asheville, N.C. U.S. District Judge Lacy Thornburg is hearing the case without a jury.
