Summary

Postdoctoral Position in Synthetic Inorganic Nanochemistry: The Softmatter Nanotechnology and Advanced Spectroscopy Team (http://quantumdot.lanl.gov/) of the Chemistry Division (C) is seeking outstanding candidates to join our existing projects on metal and semiconductor nanocrystals (quantum dots), quantum dot assemblies, and organic/inorganic composites. The position will involve the synthesis of metal nanoparticles and semiconductor quantum dots (including bio-compatible systems), quantum dot arrays, and quantum dot/polymer composites. The goal of the project is to develop novel, tunable nanomaterials for light-emitting, nonlinear optical, photovoltaic, and tagging applications. The synthetic work will be combined with extensive characterization of the fabricated structures using state-of-the-art C-division facilities for microstructural diagnostics and nonlinear-optical, near-field, and femtosecond spectroscopies.

Required Skills

A strong background and extensive hands-on experience in synthetic inorganic/organic chemistry. The ability to work creatively and independently. Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Desired Skills

Expertise in synthesis of colloidal nanostructures. Experience in microstructural analysis (TEM, XRD, XPS), routine optical spectroscopies (UV-Vis, FTIR, PL, PLE), and scan-probe microscopy (STM, AFM, MFM)

Education

A Ph.D. completed within the last five years or soon to be completed is required.

Notes To Applicants
