Traditional Hispanic food can have lots of fat and sugar, which people with diabetes should avoid. Can you keep the taste without the problems?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recipes to do that. It’s part of a bilingual nutritional campaign, "Mas que comida, es vida," which means, "It’s more than food, it’s life."

CDC public health advisor Betsy Rodriguez says the recipes help people make healthy food choices and feel satisfied while doing it:

[Betsy Rodriguez speaks] "It will help them to dispel the misunderstanding that they cannot enjoy the Latin food which is sometimes is so rich in fat, calories and sugar."

The program also advises 30 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity five days a week, eating a variety of foods that are low in fat, and reducing the number of calories per day.
