ASM-AO  Chemistry & Metallurgy Research Facility Replacement (CMRR) Project

CMRR Project and Work Scope Description

The Chemistry and Metallurgy Research (CMR) Facility at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) was built in 1952; its planned end-of-life is in or around 2010. Many of the CMR facility systems and structural components are aged, outmoded, eroding, and generally deteriorating. Per the 1999 CMR Risk Management Strategy, Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Agency (DOE/NNSA) cannot continue to operate the existing CMR Facility at an acceptable level of risk to public and worker health and safety without additional operational restrictions. Current CMR operational restrictions preclude the full implementation of the level of operations DOE/NNSA approved through its Record of Decision for the 1999 Site-Wide Environmental Impact Statement for the Continued Operation of LANL.

The CMR Replacement (CMRR) Project seeks to relocate and consolidate mission critical CMR capabilities at LANL to ensure continuous support of NNSA stockpile stewardship and management strategic objectives. These capabilities are necessary to support the current and directed stockpile work and campaign activities at LANL beyond 2010. CMRR will provide the responsive infrastructure necessary to sustain NNSA nuclear programs at LANL.

This is not a request for proposals or solicitation.  This website is for informational and planning purposes only and is a market research tool to determine the availability and adequacy of potential business sources before issuing a Request for Proposal (RFP).  The CMRR Project is seeking enclosure fabricators that can meet the Quality Assurance requirements of DOE Order 414.1C, Quality Assurance and 10CFR830, Subpart A, Nuclear Safety: Quality Assurance Requirements, using NQA-1-2000, Quality Assurance Requirements for Nuclear Facility Applications as the basis of its Quality Assurance Program.
