Kansas Drop INs Kansas DropINs, a collaboration of private and public sector agencies housed in the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, announces the development of a new, interactive website highlighting resources for the state's dropout prevention efforts and upcoming Dropout Prevention Summit held on October 20, 2009 in Wichita. The Summit will highlight promising practices of Kansas' current dropout prevention efforts, while identifying additional strategies to combat the issue. Every Kansan has a stake in ensuring our youth succeed and therefore all sectors - private businesses, government agencies, school staff, parents, youth and concerned citizens are invited to attend the summit.

Kansas Green Schools The Kansas Green Schools Initiative represents the collaborative effort of the Bureaus of Water, Air and Radiation, Waste Management and Environmental Remediation to promote environmental stewardship for Kansas Schools statewide. Through the Kansas Green Schools Program, there are opportunities for grants, workshops for teachers, and technical support for schools to "green" their buildings and grounds. Incorporating projects into the classroom curriculum is one goal of the program. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment partner for the Green Schools Program is the Kansas Association for Conservation and Environmental Education (KACEE).

Coordinated School Health Conference
September 21st and 22nd

4th Annual Coordinated School Health Conference

The 4th Annual Coordinated School Health Conference, Kansas Schools: At the Crossroads of a Healthy Community will be held in Wichita, Kansas on September 21 and 22, 2009. The conference will highlight a variety of school approaches to improving student and staff wellness. Sessions will also address individualizing physical activity, incorporating fresh fruits and vegetables into nutrition services, creative approaches to cross-curricular integration of activity, incorporating community resources and funding opportunities for schools to enhance programs. Kansas Information for Communities (KIC)

Kansas Information for Communities (KIC) gives users the chance to prepare their own queries for vital event and other health care data, including births, cancer incidence, deaths, and hospital discharges by diagnosis and by procedure, Kansas population estimates, and pregnancies. The KIC system allows you to generate your own table for specific characteristics: year of occurrence, age, rate, sex, and county. KIC also has links to statistical reports and health professional reports.
