Privacy Act Notice - December 2006

This notice is provided pursuant to Public Law 93-579, Privacy Act of 1974, 5, U.S.C. Section 552a for individuals supplying information as data input to the Program Support Center’s Integrated Time and Attendance System (ITAS).

The collection and maintenance of records contained in ITAS is done in accordance with the Privacy Act of 1974, 5 U.S.C. § 552a. Broadly stated, the purpose of the Privacy Act is to balance the government’s need to maintain information about individuals with the rights of individuals to be protected against unwarranted invasions of their privacy stemming from Federal agencies’ collection, maintenance, use, and disclosure of personal information about them.

Although documents are safeguarded from unauthorized use, there is some potential for information to be erroneously stored or unjustifiably viewed. In the event that an employee discovers protected information, such as Social Security numbers or home addresses, he or she should immediately contact their supervisor regarding the error so that corrective measures can be taken. The supervisor must contact the employee’s ITAS Coordinator and the agency’s Chief Information Security Officer. Any employee who knowingly and willfully discloses personal information to other persons or agencies not entitled to receive it shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and may be fined up to $5,000.
