The U.S. Geological Survey is conducting research at the Loch Vale Watershed as part of its Water, Energy, Biogeochemical Budgets (WEBB) program. Other sites in the WEBB program include:

  1. Sleepers River Watershed in northeastern Vermont
  2. Trout Lake Watershed in northern Wisconsin
  3. Panola Mountain Watershed near Atlanta, Georgia
  4. Luquillo Experimental Forest in eastern Puerto Rico

These sites were chosen to encompass a diverse range in climate, hydrology, and biogeochemistry (Hirsch, 1998).
