Klein Tackles Key Issues During Productive Week In the District

Boca Raton, FL – Congressman Ron Klein (FL-22) continued his push to work on key local issues including the economy, energy and health care during the district work period, with more than 30 meetings and events this week.

Congressman Klein started off the week participating in a commemoration service with the family of Sgt. Christopher Reyka, a courageous police officer killed in the line of duty in Broward County. He stressed in his comments, “It is important to continue to remember the brave people who serve our community every day, and help bring the person who perpetrated this crime to justice.”

During the week, Congressman Klein met with more than a dozen local businesses, to talk about the need for a greater flow of bank credit, as well as how they can take advantage of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Congressman Klein also met the director at the Max Planck Florida Research Institute, and toured a newly built school LEED-certified school building with VB Engineering, a local solar energy business. He met with Lynn University president Kevin Ross and his staff to discuss Lynn’s participation in the new G.I. Bill for veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. He also delivered the keynote speech at the swearing in of 25 new U.S. citizens at the new U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services office in Royal Palm Beach. In addition, Congressman Klein spoke to the United Way Young Leaders, the Junior League, and at the Coastal America Florida Awards Ceremony.

Congressman Klein continued his ongoing health care listening tour, this time with health associations, non-profits, and a health care town hall meeting at a retirement community, with more than 100 senior citizens in attendance. In May, Klein formed a Health Advisory Group, so he could regularly communicate with health care stakeholders via email and teleconference. The group includes doctors, nurses, health care providers and patient advocacy groups. He also has held three health care town halls at Bethesda Memorial Hospital, Boca Community Hospital and Abbey Delray South.

“It is great to be home in South Florida, talking to constituents and continuing to work on critical issues that will shape our community and country now, and for decades to come,” Klein said. “After working diligently with my colleagues in Washington, it is essential to meet with constituents and listen to their comments, suggestions, and ideas, so that I can take them back to Congress this fall. This has been a productive week, going up and down the 22nd District, and meeting with constituents throughout the community. I look forward to continuing these meetings and discussions over the next few weeks before we return to Washington.”
