International Outreach & Technical Assistance

FDA's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) provides information on its laws, regulations, and policies to foreign governments, industry, and the global public health community to enhance international understanding of food and cosmetic safety to protect consumer health. Information is disseminated through lectures in conferences, consultations, exchange of information with foreign visitors, proactive training seminars, training videos, Internet programs, and technical cooperation activities.

 

The Joint Institute for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition 

The Joint Institute for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (JIFSAN) is a foundation of public and private partnerships that provides a scientific basis for ensuring a safe, wholesome food supply and building a national food safety program in support of international food standards.

JIFSAN was established between the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the University of Maryland (UM) in April 1996. The Institute is a jointly administered, multidisciplinary research and education program and includes research components from the FDA Centers for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) and Veterinary Medicine (CVM), and UM.
