Special Town Board Meeting - May 13th
There will be Special Town Board Meeting on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at 7:00PM in the Court Room to discuss and adopt a resolution setting the particulars of the Special Election scheduled for June 3, 2009, pursuant to New York State Law.
The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has released its new prices for the 2009/2010 season with increases almost across the board and significant impact on seniors.These increased fees will be effective on Monday, August 17th when the 2009-2010 hunting licenses go on sale.

Governor David A. Paterson announced on Sunday, April 26th that he has activated New York State’s health emergency preparedness plan, and put the State on high alert to quickly identify and respond to any cases of swine flu. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed eight cases of a new strain of influenza (swine flu H1N1) in New York City , and has declared a public health emergency. As a course of normal operating procedure during events such as this for the CDC to make a declaration of public health emergency. This enables the State and localities to receive quicker access to vital resources, and other necessary assistance.Although the New York cases to date have been mild, state officials in close communication with clinicians and hospitals to identify more serious cases, should they occur, and to make sure all necessary resources are available for treatment. Residents need to take the same common sense precautions to prevent illness that you would take with any seasonal flu, such as staying home when you are ill. Parents do not need to keep otherwise healthy children home from school unless directed to do so by local school and health officials.
It is important to note that ordinary seasonal flu, which has symptoms similar to swine flu, is still active in New York State. Precautionary measures for both seasonal flu and swine flu include:
- Washing your hands often with soap and warm water. Alcohol-based hand cleansers are also effective.
- Avoiding people who are ill.
- Staying home from work or school if you are sick.
- Using tissue when you cough, sneeze or spit, and dispose of the tissue in a covered trash bin.
- Keeping hands away from your face. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
- Cleaning shared space more often such as phone receivers, keyboards, steering wheels and office equipment.
- Refraining from sharing personal items such as forks, spoons, toothbrushes and towels.

The Town of West Seneca Comprehensive Plan is now available on the Town web site.
The Town of West Seneca has been informed by NYSDEC that the revised floodplain maps will not be available until sometime in 2009 at the earliest. The reason for the delay is because FEMA has agreed to utilize (and pay for) a better system of collecting topographic information, called Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR). The new system will provide a greater degree of accuracy in revising the floodplain maps. The West Seneca Town Board recently adopted Local Law Number 5-2007 to amend the Recycling and Waste Disposal Law. This law was enacted to preserve the health, safety, and welfare of our residents by reducing the number of rodents in our community. Residents will be required to place their garbage in vinyl or aluminum containers with handles and tight lids. It is recommended that the containers have detachable covers to make the handling of the containers easier for our sanitation workers. Please continue to place your household garbage in plastic bags and then place the bags into vinyl or aluminum containers.

The Town Clerk's office has been designated as a passport acceptance site. Passport applications are processed daily from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM and on certain Wednesday evening until 6:30 PM.
The Department of State has announced an importance change in response to the needs of US citizens for flexibility regarding travel documents in complying with the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative. As of February 1st, citizens now have an opportunity to choose between the passport book and a passport card.
U.S. citizens may now begin applying in advance for the new, limited-use, wallet-size passport card. Cards are expected to be available and mailed to applicants in spring 2008. When available it will only be valid for land and sea travel between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean region, and Bermuda.
This is important to keep in mind, because the passport card cannot be used for air travel or for countries other than listed above.
The fee for a passport card for an adult is $45.00. Children (age 15 and under) pay $35.00.
Whether applying for a passport book or a passport card, you need to appear in person with a certified copy of your birth certificate (filed within one year after birth), and a valid form of photo identification such as a driver’s license.
In the Town Clerk’s office, steps have also been taken to assist customers with applications. The Town Clerk now offers a one-stop process by providing photographs as well as processing your passport application. Photographs are reasonably priced at $8.00.
The Department of State has placed a $3.00 increase in the fee for a passport book, now $100.00 for adults and $85.00 for children under 16.
Please Note: For children under the age of 16, both parents or the child’s legal guardian(2) must appear in person with all the necessary documentation.
Passport applications are currently at the normal processing time of four to six weeks for routine service and three weeks for expedited service. There is an additional $60.00 fee for expedited service.

It is suggested that interested parties contact the Town Clerk's Office (558-3215 or 558-3216) prior to appearing to insure that an authorized acceptance agent is available to process the application(s). All minors must appear in person when applying for U.S. passports.

The Town of West Seneca in cooperation with the West Seneca Police Department, have created a Sex Offender Registry to help keep you informed and to help keep our kids safe. We have provided the names of Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 sex offenders who currently live within West Seneca. This registry will be updated on an ongoing basis.
