The Division of Planning and Economic Development is responsible for planning and implementation of physical development projects that are consistent with County-wide goals.

The division provides administration and delivery of federal funds for the Community Development Block Grant and HOME Investment Partnership Consortiums. These funds are used for community development, housing rehabilitation activities, and economic development programs.

In 2001, the Office of Arts, Culture and Tourism, and the Office of Geographic Information Services were established as a part of the Planning Division to adequately serve the Erie County consistency in these areas.

In 2002, the Erie County Government Center for Regional Cooperation and Collaboration (CRCC) was successfully integrated into the Division of Planning and Economic Development. The division serves as focal point for providing technical and financial assistance to local governments to foster and implement collaborative initiatives.
