National Endowment for
Financial Education (NEFE)
CSREES and the Credit Union National Association
(CUNA) are major partners with National Endowment
for Financial Education (NEFE) for the delivery
and evaluation of the NEFE® High
School Financial Planning Program®.
Each year, more than half a million students
complete the six-unit curriculum. It emphasizes
such concepts as managing credit, saving
to achieve financial goals, and owning and
protecting assets. A nationwide program evaluation
in 1997-98—that was replicated in 2004—showed
that the program resulted in statistically
significant knowledge, behavior, and confidence
improvements by students. For example, nearly
half of the students started saving or began
saving more.
