Federal Government Operating Status

Federal agencies in the Denver / Boulder metropolitan area are open. Employees should report to work on time.

The Denver Federal Executive Board (DFEB) is one of the original ten Federal Executive Boards established by Presidential Directive in 1961.  There are now 28 FEBs that serve as the cornerstone for strategic partnering in government, and provide a forum for communication and collaboration among Federal agencies outside of Washington, DC.

Since approximately 88 percent of all Federal employees work outside the National Capital Region, the need for effective communication and coordination among the field activities of Federal departments and agencies is crucial.  Federal programs have their impact largely through the actions of the field representatives of the departments and agencies and Federal representatives are the principal contact with the Federal Government for the citizens of the United States.

“Although each executive agency and its field organizations have a special mission, there are many matters on which the work of the departments converge.  Among them are management and budgetary procedures, personnel policies, recruitment efforts, office information duties, and similar matters.  There are opportunities to pool experience and resources, and to accomplish savings.  In substantive programs there are also opportunities for a more closely coordinated approach in many activities.”
