Efficiency Grants Released to Government of Guam
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 11, 2009 Washington, D.C.
Congresswoman Bordallo today announced that the Department of Energy (DOE) has released more than $20,000,000 in funds to the Government of Guam as result of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Guam is eligible for more than $140,000,000 in formula grants in addition to the $60,000,000 in tax credits paid for by the U.S. Treasury. The funds awarded today are part of the DOE’s Weatherization Assistance Program and the State Energy Program. The Weatherization Assistance Program will allow an average investment of up to $6,500 per home in energy efficiency upgrades and will assist low-income families on Guam in reducing their energy bills. The State Energy Program grant to the Guam Energy Office will help fund energy efficiency and renewable energy projects on Guam.
“The funding received today from the Department of Energy will help improve energy efficiency on Guam and will help our island to focus on renewable energy solutions for the future,” Congresswoman Bordallo said today.
