Tour Information

There is no cost to participate in a B Reactor Tour, but space is limited. Buses will leave at 8:00 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. from the Tri-Cities Enterprise Center located at 2000 Logston Boulevard in Richland, Washington. Each tour will take approximately three and a half (3.5) hours. The 2009 tentative tour dates are listed below:

  • April 25
  • May 9 and 30
  • June 6, 13, and 20
  • July 11, 18, and 25
  • August 8, 15, 22, and 29
  • September 5, 12, 19, and 26

All tour slots are filled on a first-come first-served basis through an online registration system. Participants must be at least 18 years of age.

Due to the overwhelming response for participating in B Reactor Tours, individuals may only request up to four slots on a tour for their party, and they may only register for one tour in each calendar year. We are unable to maintain a waiting list once all tour slots have been filled although interested people should check this website periodically as registered tour participants may cancel and slots could become available at any time.

To register, participants must provide their full names as shown on their photo identifications for each of the tour members. On the day of the tour, the names given on the online registration must match the names shown on the photo identification.

Accessibility

Individuals participating in the tour should be able to remain on their feet for periods as long as 45 minutes and be able to withstand indoor temperatures as high as 90+ degrees or as low as near freezing. Also, the reactor is over 60 years old, and was not designed for frequent public access, which means there are structural aspects associated with an industrial facility that all tour guests must pay extra attention to - these include tight corners, uneven surfaces, grating and less-than-ideal lighting. Tour participants must also be able to read and comprehend all mandated Hanford Safety and Awareness information.

At this time, the tour is not set up to accommodate handicapped persons. The Agency is, however, in the process of evaluating options/methods of accommodating such persons and will (if possible) adjust the tour accordingly in the future.

Note: Public tours are subject to immediate cancellation any time the Security Condition (SECON) level is raised above 3, or in the event of other security of safety concerns. Additionally, in the unlikely event of an emergency or other unforeseeable situation, the tour bus may be required to remain on the Hanford Site for longer than scheduled, or the tour may be immediately terminated. Tour participants should be prepared for delays, or an earlier than normal return time.
