STEVENSON, Ala. - Residents near Widows Creek Fossil Plant may hear alarms
from a new emergency notification system that is being installed
and tested at the TVA power plant.
The
alarm system will be tested between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays beginning
Monday, March 3, through Wednesday, March 12. Local
community and law enforcement officials have been notified of the tests.
Residents should ignore the alarms from the plant site during
the
testing period and not report them to 911 emergency dispatchers.
The
new alarm system is designed to warn employees in the event of an emergency
at the plant and is capable of producing three different
tones
as well as voice messages.
Widows
Creek is located on the Tennessee River near Stevenson, Alabama. The
plant generates about nine billion kilowatt-hours of electricity
a year,
enough to supply more than 650,000 homes.
TVA
