Mountain Lake Marina on Norris Receives Clean Marina Award

May 16, 2003

LAKE CITY, Tenn. — Mountain Lake Marina on Norris Reservoir will fly the Clean Marina flag in recognition of its achievements in making Norris Reservoir a cleaner place.

The flag will be presented to marina owner Miles Owens on Saturday, May 17, in Lake City. Events planned at the marina throughout the day include:

  • Noon – Annual Employee/Customer Appreciation Day with free hot dogs and drinks
  • 5 p.m. – Barbecue dinner for customers
  • 6 p.m. – Awards presentation.

“To receive this designation, marinas must meet all federal, state and local regulations related to marina management,” said TVA Clean Marina Coordinator Linda Harris. “They must also implement a number of recommended practices to minimize pollution and encourage boaters to become effective stewards of the water resources.”

Mountain Lake Marina has undergone a complete transformation of its business operations. The owner took innovative measures to handle boat sewage; implemented safe fuel management techniques, including having a current spill prevention, control, and countermeasures plan; and provides educational information and learning opportunities for boaters.
