TVA Employee Spencer Boardman Wins Environmental Excellence Award

Dec. 5, 2003

Knoxville resident and TVA employee Spencer Boardman, a project manager based in Norris, has won a TVA Environmental Excellence Award for his leadership in environmental protection and stewardship.

Boardman made a concerted effort to work in partnership with the Tellico community, the developer, and TVA to find a workable solution in the development of Rarity Pointe on Tellico Reservoir.

“Spencer Boardman’s efforts to integrate responsible environmental practices into business decisions, to comply with environmental laws and regulations, and to find new and better solutions for environmental and public protection earned him this award,” said TVA Environmental Executive Kate Jackson.

TVA Environmental Excellence Awards are presented annually to a TVA individual, team, site, facility or organization that has demonstrated exemplary environmental performance in support of one of TVA’s six environmental principles. Those principles are: management commitment; environmental protection and stewardship; environmental compliance; pollution prevention; partnerships/public involvement; and innovation and technology.

Boardman received a certificate and a framed print depicting a scene from the Valley environment.

TVA is the nation’s largest public power provider and is completely self- financed. It provides power to large industries and 158 power distributors that serve 8.3 million consumers in seven southeastern states. TVA also manages the Tennessee River and its tributaries to provide multiple benefits, including flood control, navigation, water quality and recreation.
