Mayor Fenty Hosts Toy Giveaway

Mayor Fenty hosted a toy giveaway at Martha's Table, distributing more than 200 gifts to children and teens. This holiday season, the District has provided presents to over 900 children.

Recipient organizations include: Calvin Woodland Sr. Foundation, Martha's Table, Agape Faith Ministries, Inc., Southeast Tennis and Learning Center and Families Forward, Inc.


Voluntary Agreements Upheld During Inauguration

The District announced on Decemeber 19 that establishments with on-premises retailer’s licenses must honor contractual voluntary agreements entered into with Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration (ABRA) and members of the community during the 2009 Presidential Inauguration. Read more.


District Launches Safe City Program

Mayor Fenty and Metropolitan Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier announced the implementation of a new crime prevention initiative launched in the Trinidad neighborhood. Read more.


Strengthening Child Welfare

The District’s Child and Family Services Agency (CFSA) announced outstanding progress over the past month in reducing the backlog of child protective services (CPS) investigations, improving the retention of social workers and increasing the recruitment of social workers to fill vacancies. New Deanwood Community Center and Library

Ward 7 community members joined District city leaders in a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the beginning of construction of the Deanwood Community Center and Library (DCCL) Project. Read more.


New Housing Initiative to Revitalize Ivy City

Mayor Fenty announced a new initiative that will transform 37 long-vacant and blighted properties in Ivy City into market-rate and affordable housing. Read more.


Mixed Use Project for Seniors

Mayor Adrian M. Fenty and the DC Office on Aging broke ground on a mixed use wellness center in Ward 6. The project is slated for the former Rutherford B. Hayes Elementary School located at 1005 Fifth Street, NE. Read more.


Turkey Giveaway for Ward 1 Residents

Last month, Mayor Fenty and Councilmember Jim Graham distributed over 350 turkey baskets to the residents of Kelly Miller and Garfield Terrace in Ward 1 on November 20. Turkey baskets included: frozen turkey, mashed potatoes, broccoli & cheese, frozen green beans, stuffing mix and a frozen sweet potato pie.
