The Department of Homeland Security offers a variety of prestigious scholarships, fellowships, internships and training opportunities to expose talented students to the broad national security mission. 

  • New! Headquarters Volunteer Fellows Program offers students the opportunity to earn academic credit while gaining on-the-job training during the fall and spring academic semesters.

  • National Security Internship is an intensive full immersion summer program that combines Arabic language, Homeland Security, Intelligence and Area Studies, and on-the-job-training experience at the Department or FBI headquarters.

  • Federal Cyber Service: Scholarship For Service Program, for college students, is designed to increase and strengthen the cadre of federal information assurance professionals that protect the government's critical information infrastructure.

  • Headquarters Student Summer Program offers opportunities for students in the Washington, D.C. area to gain on-the-job experience in one of several fields over the summer.

  • Summer Law Intern Program offers compensated positions at the Office of General Counsel at Department of Homeland Security headquarters in Washington, D.C.

  • Student Career Experience Program (SCEP) is a paid internship program with the Office of Intelligence & Analysis (I&A). In the fall, I&A will recruit for several opportunities in the support career fields, such as budget, policy, and human capital.The nature of the work need not be related to the student's academic or career goals.

  • Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP) is a paid internship program with the Office of Intelligence & Analysis. The nature of the work need not be related to the student's academic or career goals. The application period is typically January-February.

  • Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) College Intern Program provides a unique opportunity for college students, majoring in Criminal Justice or a related field, to participate in a federal law enforcement training environment.

  • Presidential Management Fellowship (PMF), designed for graduate-level students, aims to attract to the federal service outstanding men and women from a variety of academic disciplines and career paths who have a clear interest in, and commitment to, excellence in the leadership and management of public policies and programs.

  • Science & Technology University Programs uses the unique intellectual capital in the academic community to address current and future homeland security challenges, and educate and inspire the next generation homeland security workforce.

  • U.S. Customs and Border Protection offers opportunities for students and recent graduates.

  • U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement offers the ICE Student Volunteer Program, an unpaid professional training opportunity, for undergraduate and graduate college students.

  • U.S. Secret Service Student Volunteer Internship provides unpaid academic-related work assignments that allow students to explore career options in addition to developing personal and professional skills.
