Summary: Indiana University will be developing and implementing the Indiana Health Services Research (I-HSR) training program for the purpose of preparing clinical and interdisciplinary investigators to conduct research to improve the health of children and adults. This program will support four postdoctoral trainees in its first year: two in the Pediatric I-HSR program and two in the Adult I-HSR program. By the completion of either I-HSR training program, trainees will have developed core competencies in health services and clinical research methods, biostatistics, medical informatics, clinical trials, system redesign, research ethics, translational research, scientific writing, and grant application preparation. In years 2 through 5 of this T32 grant, three or four additional trainees will be selected so that at any one point in time after year 1, a maximum of seven trainees will be participating in the AHRQ-funded I-HSR training program at Indiana University.

Summary: This Mentored Clinical Scientist Development Award will be used develop and implement a web-based tool for studying the influence of race on the diagnosis of abusive head trauma and the ability of physicians to recall clinical information in cases of potential abusive head trauma. The researcher will also develop an educational intervention to decrease the effect of physicians' unconscious stereotypes on the decision to evaluate for abusive head trauma; and pilot test the educational intervention for reducing the role of unconscious racial stereotypes in the recognition of abusive head trauma. The study population in this research will be physicians, African-American pediatricians.
