The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) instrument on NASA's Terra satellite captured this true-color image of Hurricane Isabel about 400 miles north of Puerto Rico on September 14, 2003, at 14:45 UTC. At the time, Isabel was packing maximum sustained winds of 155 miles per hour, making it a rare and powerful Category 5 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane scale.
