Emergency Preparedness

Preparing for & Responding to Emergencies & Disasters

Firefighters at the scene of an emergency

No one can predict the outcome of a disaster, whether natural or man-made, but with proper planning the aftermath does not have to be catastrophic. This section of Disability.gov includes information that people with disabilities, their families, employers, and first-responders need to know about actions that should be taken before, during, and after emergencies. Comprehensive information on emergency preparedness, response, and recovery plans that take into account the needs of people with disabilities, as well as practical tips on how individuals, schools, and places of business can prepare for emergencies, is also available in this section of the site.
