![wcwep diagram](images/provoriver_wcwep.gif) The Central Utah Water Conservancy District (District), Mitigation Commission, Department of the Interior, Daniels Irrigation Company and Wasatch County Special Service Area No. 1 cooperated to implement this project, which integrates a water efficiency and conservation program in the Heber Valley of Wasatch County with the Daniels/Strawberry Water Exchange. Through the project, a portion of water conserved through implementing more efficient water management (primarily irrigation improvements) is supplied to the Daniels Irrigation Company Service Area, located in the southwest corner of the Heber Valley. Water previously diverted from the Upper Strawberry River system to the Daniels Irrigation Company Service area is allowed to remain in the upper Strawberry drainage, effectively restoring natural flows in 26 miles of streams in Strawberry Valley. This mitigation measure accomplishes more than one-fourth the required mitigation for aquatic resources impacted by the Strawberry Aqueduct and Collection System of the Bonneville Unit.
The Final Environmental Impact Statement for WCWEP/DRP was issued November 22, 1996. Project construction was completed in 2001. Streamflows were restored to the upper Strawberry River and tributaries in 2001 and 2002. The Commission assisted the Distrtict in dam removal and wetland creation from formerly-used irrigation reservoirs in the upper Strawberry River drainage in 2002.
