On this day in weather history...

1965 -- A tornado moved for ten miles from near Stryker to near Pettisville, Ohio.

1987 -- Fort Wayne's coolest August high temperature: 60°.

1989 -- Thunderstorms gave Spencer, Indiana 4.10" of rain this morning.

1998 -- An F2 tornado struck southwest Cass County Michigan, damaging homes around Juno, Painter, Christian, and Eagle lakes. An F1 twister then damaged farms south of U.S. 12. An F1 tornado struck Niles (Berrien County), ripping the roof off of the French Paper Company and D&D Tire Company. Strong thunderstorm winds blew down signs and ripped off part of the Holiday Inn's roof in Goshen. Street flooding reached the bottom of car doors in Coloma, Michigan. Power poles in southern Hillsdale County were flattened to the ground. A home in Archbold, Ohio lost its roof and a barn was blown three feet off its foundation. An F1 tornado touched down on top of a Ford dealership in Dunlap damaging its roof and wall. It threw a Ford Aerostar van into a power pole along U.S. 33 and threw an RV 150 feet across the highway into a ditch. F0 tornado damaged siding, roofs, and gutters in Bristol (Elkhart County). A Michigan State Police officer was electrocuted and killed by a downed power line.

2001 -- An F0 tornado touched down in a field three miles southwest of LaPorte near the intersection of 400S and 500W. Also, thunderstorm winds blew trees down along US 6 at Westville (LaPortre County).

2003 -- 58mph thunderstorm winds blew down trees northeast of Jonesville (Hillsdale County).
