Lt. Gov. O'Brien Encourages Participation in Kids' Health Enrollment Fairs in Monthly Podcast
During theĀ May installment of her monthly podcast, Lt. Gov. Barbara O'Brien is encouraging participation in kid's health care enrollment fairs across the state.
"Given the challenges that families face in these difficult economic times, it's important to get as many children as possible under basic health coverage," said Lt. Gov. O'Brien. Congratulations to the community providers for getting the word out and for bringing people together for the health of children in Colorado," she added.
To get eligible children enrolled in Medicaid or the Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+), the Department of Health Care Policy and Financing (HCPF) awarded $115,000 grants to 23 community organizations to hold enrollment fairs between now and May 31. At present, there are 153,000 children in Colorado that do not have health coverage, and an estimated 78,000 that could be eligible for either Medicaid or CHP+.
With the goal of getting at least 1,000 children qualified for basic health care, HCPF is relying on community partners and stakeholders to assist families with the application process. The enrollment fairs have proven to be an effective and efficient way to enroll eligible children and outreach to families that have recently lost medical coverage.
