GRAND JUNCTION STUDENTS OFFER SUGGESTIONS TO LT. GOV O'BRIEN ON NEW COLORADO KIDS OUTDOOR BILL OF RIGHTS

Grand Junction -- Lt. Gov. Barbara O'Brien met today in Grand Junction with Broadway Elementary School students to hear their suggestions on what should be included in the Colorado Kids Outdoor Bill of Rights. Lt. Gov. O'Brien recently asked Colorado kids to submit suggestions on what they think should be included in their Outdoor Bill of Rights, which is being created to encourage children to reconnect with the outdoors.

"It's so great to hear directly from the students themselves about what they enjoy about the outdoors and what they think should be included," said Lt. Gov. O'Brien. "We want the Outdoor Bill of Rights to be uniquely Colorado and include activities that all children will have the opportunity to experience by the time they're 18 years old."

Some of the suggestions from today included:

  • Own more "outdoor things" instead of game controllers;
  • Find time to go camping and hiking;
  • Ride a bike;
  • Learn to fish;

Lt. Gov. O'Brien is creating the Colorado Kids Outdoor Bill of Rights to make an affirmative statement about the importance of the state's outdoor resources and our children's future. Up to 10 suggestions can be sent to kidsbor@state.co.us, or they can be mailed to Lt. Gov. Barbara O'Brien, 130 State Capitol; Denver, CO 80203. Students should be sure to include their contact information.

The final version of the Colorado Kids Outdoor Bill of Rights will be announced at National "Get Outdoors Day" in Denver on June 13 and will be posted on Lt. Gov. O'Brien's website www.colorado.gov/ltgovernor.
