EEOC Reports Company Unlawfully Fired Employee with ESRD
According to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Aveva Drug Delivery Systems, Inc. discriminated against an employee with a disability who receives dialysis treatments for End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). The EEOC says the employee, a 50-year-old woman, had a catheter in her arm that was used for dialysis treatment, and that she was fired after an approved leave of absence related to her disability.
U.S. Signs UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

On July 30, 2009 the United States became one of 142 other countries that have signed the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

President Obama's statement on this landmark legislation that established a clear mandate against discrimination on the basis of disability. The President also announced that the United States will sign the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Medical Health Group to Pay $125,000 for Disability Bias Against Worker with Cancer
A White Marsh, MD medical practice will pay $125,000 and furnish significant remedial relief to settle a disability discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). The EEOC had charged that Medical Health Group, Inc., refused to return an employee to work who had recovered from breast cancer surgery.
President Obama Commemorates Anniversary of Olmstead & Announces New Initiatives
On the 10th anniversary of the landmark Supreme Court decision in the case of Olmstead v. L.C., President Barack Obama today celebrated that anniversary and launched "The Year of Community Living." The President has directed the Health & Human Services (HHS) Secretary and the Secretary of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) to work together to identify ways to improve access to housing, community supports and independent living arrangements for people with disabilities.

EEOC Votes to Revise Rules to Conform to ADA Amendments Act
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has voted to revise its regulations to conform to changes made by the ADA Amendments Act (ADAAA) of 2008, which would make it easier for an individual seeking protection under the ADA to establish that he or she has a disability.

National Summit on Disability Policy 2010

The National Council on Disability (NCD) is seeking people with disabilities, individuals representing grassroots organizations and others to help shape disability policies and programs for the next decade. Deadline for submitting application to attend the summit is October 15, 2009.
