Healthcare Reform in the United States
The US Health-care system has many attractive features: in particular, most of the population has access to high standards of medical care. Nevertheless, the overall health status of the US population appears to rank among the lower third of OECD countries, despite much higher health expenditure per capita than in any other country. This working paper from the OECD Economics Department focuses on two factors that contribute to this discrepancy and suggests two sets of reforms to improve the US healthcare system.
