On May 10-11, 2004, Attorney General John Ashcroft and Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge met in
Washington, DC with the Ministers for Justice and Home Affairs from the G8 countries (Canada, France,
Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, and the United Kingdom) and with the European Commissioner for Justice
and Home Affairs.
There were four primary topics of discussion: prevention of terrorism and serious criminal acts;
border and transportation security; combating cybercrime and enhancing cyber-investigations;
and fighting foreign official corruption and recovering stolen national assets.
At the conclusion of their meeting, the Ministers issued a joint Communiqué and attended
a joint press conference
where U.S. Attorney General Ashcroft and Secretary Ridge made brief opening remarks.
