Productivity increased 6.4 percent in the nonfarm business sector during the second quarter of 2009 as unit labor costs
fell 5.8 percent (seasonally adjusted annual rates). In manufacturing, productivity increased 5.3 percent while unit
labor costs rose 0.5 percent.

Labor productivity (output per hour) rose in 66 percent of the detailed
service-providing and mining industries studied in 2007, about the same
proportion as in 2006. Unit labor costs increased in 70 percent of the
industries, compared to 76 percent in 2006.
