Oral Arguments Conclude in Gun Case

Mayor Adrian M. Fenty and the District’s legal team briefed reporters after oral arguments before the United States Supreme Court in District of Columbia v. Heller, a case challenging the District’s gun-control law.

“The District of Columbia has a strong interest in keeping its residents safe from gun violence,” said Mayor Fenty. “I’m confident that the Justices will preserve that interest and allow us to continue regulating handguns. I also want to thank our legal team for an outstanding job not only during today’s oral arguments, but during the months of work that they put into preparing our case as well.”
