Coalition forces maintain pressure on Taliban network in Kapisa

KABUL, Afghanistan – Coalition forces killed two armed militants and detained two suspected militants during operations targeting the Taliban’s terrorist network in Kapisa Province, Wednesday.

For the second time in three days the operation in Tagab District targeted Taliban militants believed to conduct terrorist activities throughout the Kabul, Laghman and Kapisa provinces.  Operating approximately 50km northeast of Kabul City, these militants are believed to conduct roadside bomb and direct fire attacks against innocent civilians, GIRoA officials and Coalition forces.  These militants are also wanted for trafficking foreign forces and weapons into the region.

As Coalition forces entered the targeted compound they encountered two militants armed with a pistol and hand grenade.  Displaying hostile intent and failing to adhere to the direction of the force to disarm, Coalition forces engaged the threat with small arms fire, killing two militants.  Two suspected militants were detained during the operation.  Coalition forces protected eight women and 20 children during the operation.

“This professional and disciplined operation is typical of the nature of Coalition force actions,” said Col. Jerry O’Hara, U.S. Forces Afghanistan spokesman. “The result is these militants will no longer bring harm to anyone again.”
